Tomato Rasam-Urad-Dal
Ingredients

- 275 g Tomatoes
- 5 tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves
- 7 Garlic Cloves
- 1 inch Ginger Chopped
- 2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon Pepper
- 1-2 tbsp Oil or Ghee
- 1/2 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
- 1/8 teaspoon Hing/ Asafoetida
- 1/2 teaspoon Urad Dal (Skinned black gram lentils)
- 8-10 Curry Leaves
- 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1-2 dry Red Chilies De- seeded
- 1.5 Cups Water
- 1 teaspoon Salt or to taste
- 2 tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves
Steps

- Blanch tomatoes, this is optional but it renders beautiful red colour to Rasam. Ground tomatoes to smooth puree
- Grind coriander leaves, garlic, ginger, cumin seeds, pepper to coarse paste
- Heat oil or ghee in a pan.Splutter mustard seeds
- Add urad dal and saute until golden brown
- Add curry leaves, red chilies and ground paste. Saute for few seconds.
- Add turmeric and mix well over low heat. Saute until aromat.
- Add tomato puree and mix well
- Add salt, mix well and cook for 1 min
- Add water and mix well. Bring to boil
- Simmer cover and cook for 8-10 minutes. Switch off
- Add 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Serve hot with rice
